What is EQClassic?

EQClassic is a development project focused on creating an accurate server-side representation of the best MMORPG ever created.

How can I play?

EQClassic is still in development, so there is nothing to play--at least, not at this time.

How can I become a tester?

The first test round has been completed successfully, for upcoming tests keep an eye on the announcement page.

How can I donate money to the project?

We do not accept donations, nor shall we ever. One should think twice before giving their hard-earned money away to other projects; professionals do not solicit handouts.

When will development be done and why is it taking so long?

Development will be done when it is done. The nature of this work makes it impossible to generate any sort of reliable ETA. We are meeting the expectations of someone else's client software, for which we have very little insight into its requirements, thus we cannot possibly know when some feature will be complete until after we observe its completion.

How can I aid development?

Since our work has become increasingly valuable to those outside of this project, our server development repository has been locked down, so no additional developers will be added to our team; however, we may choose to outsource a number of tools to programmers in our community.

How is EQClassic different from EQEmulator?

Why is the development roadmap not updated more often?

The progress values (other than 99% or higher) have little merit since they are very loose estimates, so updating these values on a weekly basis is not appropriate.

Is development focused around a PvE or PvP ruleset?

PvE.

Which client software does EQClassic develop around?

EverQuest® Trilogy (2001 "big-box" version). The Trilogy client software is the oldest retail set that encapsulates both classic expansions (RoK & SoV). If you need help identifying your software, please see these images: UPC Code, Case Front, Case Back, Disc.

Will EQClassic provide a download for the client software?

No, never, nor will we ever endorse a link to unlawfully obtain the software.

Which features are or are not found in the client software?

All features from 2001 are present in the Trilogy client software, but below is a semi-comprehensive list for the forgetful.

Features of the Trilogy client absent from recent client software:

  • Message Boards
  • MIDI Music
  • Ambient Music
  • Spell Bolts
  • Droppable Coin
  • Fully Operational Boats
  • Human Night Blindness
  • Forced Spellbook Meditation
  • Original / Velious UIs
  • Stamina Bar and Combat Fatigue
  • Pre-Endurance Discipline System
  • Soul Bound Keys
  • Original Tradeskill System
  • Single Chat Window Communication

Features of recent client software NOT found in the Trilogy client:

  • Maps
  • Luclin UI (Multi-Chat Window and Skin Customization)
  • Luclin Model Revamps
  • Zone Geometry Revamps
  • Weapon Texture Revamps
  • Target Circles
  • Dedicated Pet Window
  • Dedicated Bard Song Buff Window
  • Dedicated Raid Window
  • Audio Triggers
  • Alternate Advancement and Leadership Experience
  • Charm Item Slot
  • Shared Banking
  • Out of Combat Regeneration
  • Mouse Wheel Zoom
  • Item Links
  • Armor Dyes
  • Augments
  • Mounts

Which operating systems support the client software?

Windows XP 32bit, Windows Vista 32/64bit and Windows 7 32/64bit all support the client software. During the first test, Windows 8 was also able to play nice with the client software.

What is the maximum resolution of the client software?

The client itself only supports all common 4:3 resolution configurations up through 1600x1200. However, using EQC Custom Launcher, Widescreen Support for custom resolutions has been added. Click here for Details.

Where can I find the forum rules?

Forum Rules

The published forum rules are fairly standard, but we expect much more than this from our community. If you are the type of person who expresses them self through tired internet memes and uninspired, text-overlaid images, then refrain from participating in this community. This is a professional project and we expect our members to act accordingly.

Why is there excessive moderation on the forums?

The forums are moderated, but not excessively moderated. Moderation on any level appears to be excessive to anyone that participates in free-for-all communities, so perhaps one should reevaluate their "contributions" to this community before making such an allegation.

Why are opponents of EQClassic banned from the project?

Not one person who has challenged this project has been banned. To this day (July 19th, 2012), five (5) community members have been banned from this project--total. Sadly, three of these five bans have been dismissed developers and moderators (this speaks volumes about the types of people leading these projects).

Why are my posts sitting in an approval queue?

This project has seen a strong following of forums trolls, so a probationary period was implemented to discourage their efforts. Forum members are required to make five (5) approved posts before obtaining unrestricted privileges.

Why can I not send private messages to others?

See above.

Why is my post count not increasing?

Posts made in the Off Topic forums do not increase one's post count.

Will EQClassic be hosting servers for play?

At this time, we have no official plans on hosting a public server for play. Our options will be evaluated when development has concluded. The discussions below are purely theoretical.

Would item 'ABC' or NPC 'XYZ' be present?

Most likely every classic aspect would be supported in some form.

When would each of the two expansions be released?
