Please use this thread to discuss the community faction rank system.

Generally a goody way to keep people in line.

One suggestion: Swap the icons. Typically we are classically trained to view negative to our left and positive to our right (via number line). I was about to faction up someone until I read the url said 'decrease' and I was like oh, the blue one is the good one :).

This phenomenon can also be seen in the Thaddius encounter in WoW with polarity switches. If you try and do it opposite to the norm (pos left, neg right) you inevitably got a wipe, at least back in the day.

I like it! I'm kinda torn over whether or not I'd want there to be an added functionality of detecting who is giving you positive faction hits (negative hits obviously being excluded to reduce the risk of a flame war.)

Its a good addition, it gives both the receiver of and giver of faction increases some satisfaction. It is nice to know that someone will be rewarded for an informative or good post!

I actually like the faction system a lot. Haven't been around in a few days, so it was a cool thing to find when I got online just now. It's an excellent way to keep people from being idiots and might even promote thinking before posting (I'm not innocent there either :-P).

P.S. Dibs on Soldiers of Tunare

kind of neat, keeps the people who post a lot busy and watching what they say. Maybe there should be some sort of negative effect for people who go too negative!!!! I for one don't post enough to get involved in this stuff. Just a reader for the most part.

At first I didn't like the idea, but it seems the system does have some worthwhile applications. I have seen some really good/funny/informative posts here that really stood out and made me want to /clap.

Also- now we can faction-blast all the whiney kids that create a new thread to cry, "OMOMG WUTS TAKING SO LOANG?!" and "I'm losing hope about EQC, what am I going to do with my life?" every two weeks.

I don't post enough to feel I'm a factor here, however, I don't really see the need to have a reward for this business. I'd rather you applied it back into the game, food for the developers, or donate it to autism or whatever cause you guys feel is worthy. This isn't some business enterprise, it's something we all feel strongly about and support for the end result (hopefully) of fun...so just treat yourselves to an ice cream sundae or something and don't worry about us

This post made me think about the rewarding a bit more and I completely agree. I understand you are doing it out of the goodness of your heart and maybe to keep the posts coming and community content but I wonder if you should change the system where people can only get votes from contributing information to the project. This way it is beneficial both ways, community members have a reason and now driven to get more information for developers and the developers now have constant help coming in.
So what I'm saying is:
-Developers post on the forums for information they need (Like Harakiri w/projectiles information)
-Community responds with their information that they have researched/know
-Devs/Community + or - with how useful or crappy the information is (minus being useful so people don't make crap up and do shoddy research.)

Anyway, I don't mean to complain about you being good to the community, I'm sure many think it's a great idea. I just think that it could be used towards helping the project a bit better and not just rewarding the community for something they'd be doing anyway (posting).

You can no longer see one's negative faction unless you jump into their member profile.

We will probably be rewarding those who contribute the most to the database tweaking stage with something more substantial than the faction system rewards.

The rules of this system have changed:
One's faction rank may no longer dip into the negatives
One may not decrease the faction rank of another user unless they posses a faction rank that is at least one half the faction rank of said user
One may not adjust another user's faction rank more than once every fourteen days

All the negative faction hits have been purged from the database.

That provides a safer rule set that is less likely to be abused Yeahlight. Will you also be taking on board the views about moving the financial rewards from this faction system to another area of the project?

WTB FACTION! PST!

haha, jk. Yeahlight, everyone lubs you. 31 faction already! :) I had a question, does the faction reset every month? Or will someone get far enough ahead that no one else will have a chance to win after awhile? Especially if you can only vote down at half the faction rating or better, once someone gets up there it will be hard to even knock them when they deserve it.

The monthly pool is based on your accumulation from the previous thirty days, not your entire faction rank.

I love the faction system and I cant wait to help contribute during the database tweaking system. Also remember all I am doing Rutroh Raggy's EQ Trivia(tm) for faction for the first correct answer. Questions come on tues and thurs so if you want faction take part!

I doubt it, because if you see why it increased, they'd have to show why it decreased and then you'd create an atmosphere of bad blood and cronyism where people simply do retaliatory strikes against other posters, etc. Anonymity in this case is a good idea.

True, anonymity is the key to keeping the peace. Drama is garbage and counter-productive.
